Proposed housing development at Canal Bank stables

Planning Committee, Monday 19 June 10.30, Morecambe Town Hall

The outline planning application for 70 homes on the site of the former Canal Bank stables (22/00885/OUT on Lancaster Council’s Planning Application website), land to the west of Ashton Rd and north of Ashford Avenue, is to be determined at Planning Committee on Monday, 19th June, Morecambe town hall at 10.30 am.

Council planning officers have recommended that the application be refused. This is based on the designation of the site in the Local Plan as ‘Urban Setting Landscape’. However, the Planning Committee may take a different view and the officers have not mentioned traffic issues and poor accessibility to schools and shops as reasons for refusal.

Should you wish to address the Planning Committee to impress on its members the unsuitability of this location for new homes, the absolute deadline to register to speak is mid-day on Thursday 15th June. The email address to register to speak is: publicspeaking@lancaster.gov.uk

All requests to speak must include your name, telephone number, address, planning application number and whether you will speak in favour or against.

Public speakers are given only three minutes – strictly! The Committee may only take planning policy issues into account in their decision-making, so, for example, impact on house prices is not a valid argument. Local County and City Councillors and AwS Parish Councillor Tim Dant will be speaking to object.
